Sharp's Yeast

Post by gr_baker » Mon Aug 01, 2011 2:00 pm

Hi All,

I was visiting a microbrewery at the weekend and the brewer told me that although they currently use Nottingham yeast he'd really like to use the yeast that Sharp's Brewery in Cornwall uses due to taste and handling characteristics. It got me thinking about trying it later in the year if I can get hold of any.

Does anyone know if the yeast that's used in the bottled conditioned Single Brew Reserve is the same as the primary fermentation yeast? If so has anyone tried recovering it?

Ta,

Russell

Go with a coopers yeast, they make a great product and never get stuck. excellent kits too if you want any style of home brew

just give it a try, all grain isnt as good as you may think

There is some info here about Chalkys Bite

http://jimsbeerkit.com/forum/viewtopic. ... &sk=t&sd=a

There is also some info about their conniosseur range here

http://www.sharpsbrewery.co.uk/news/?id=51

It looks as though they may well be using Duvel Yeast in more than one beer for bottle conditioning.

If you look through this thread you will find that they use their main brewery yeast to bottle condition Clouded Yellow.

If you email Brewlab to ask if they have a yeast similar to Sharp's that it is very probable that they'd be able to send you a slope.

Sorry Craig, but dried coopers yeast? Really?

If I was a of a meaner spirit I would be suspicious of you constantly mentioning coopers, eg
there is a reference to them in in 20 of your last 31 posts? :?:

Hi there,

I disagree. It is not a matter of opinion, Coopers make great lager, ale, stout what ever you like.

All grain means more mistakes that can go wrong

I suggest you get more informed and try experementing a bit more before you put in your 2 cents :)

Coopers undoubtedly make some good kits...................so good in fact that all the breweries make them up and supply the pub trade rather than doing All Grain ...actually I think I've got that wrong
