New season Citra

Post by guypettigrew » Mon Dec 26, 2011 8:02 pm

Hi Guys

I posted something similar to this in the hops section of the board, but the response was underwhelming! So, attempt number two.

Having just bought 1kg of new season Citra, I'm a bit concerned about the aroma. They don't seem as Citra-y as the ones from last year. Not so fresh and zingy.

Has anyone else bought new season Citra? If you have, what do you think of them?

BTW, haven't used them yet, just sniffed them. Tomorrow I'll be brewing an all Citra ale, just to see what happens.

That's sad to hear! I'll be buying some to try out but it's not uncommon for hops to vary significantly from year to year. Last years Centennial were dodgy I reckon and 2009 cascades weren't up to much. Citra last year were exceptional! I opened a pack of 2011 Amarillo yesterday and the aroma was mind boggling

Like all plant products natural variation occurs from terroir to terroir, and year to year.

Plus if they are stored badly (warmth+ damp + air), that can destroy a good bag of hops easily.
