Polyclar
Polyclar
Hello all. I have brewed a pseudo lager using Notty, theres already a proper lager in my fridge doing its time. I wondered whether using polyclar on the pseudo lager would help brighten it a bit? Also how is it used and where can you get it in the UK? Or should I just let it be and tell my lager drinking friends to grow some nads, drink up the beer and admit its better than fekkin euro-fizz-water-pish? I hope it is anyhow.
Re: Polyclar
I use it in my kolsch all the time.
I siphon off into a secondary, and use my "polishings" there, gelatine, polyclar and isinglass.
For polyclar I have a stir plate, as its a royal PIA to hand mix, an old jam jar and magnet spinner, using kettle water I mix it as described, and then dump it on the stirrer for a couple of days with a foil lid on it, mixing it with enough time to fall into place and add in the cycle of the beer.
Usually, i primary for a week, then into secondary for a week, adding all polishers within 2 days of the start of secondary.
You'll lose all the grotty flavours, and a slight amount of main flavour, but get left with crystal beer thats like shop bought, and i bottle it aswell
Well worth a go to me

Re: Polyclar
so you manage to bottle condition after gelatine, polyclar and isinglass lee?
Re: Polyclar
Yep no probs, bottles as near perfect, and clears down within days matching shop bought lagers clarity.
Re: Polyclar
You also benefit from adding Gelatine first, then Polyclar after a day or so, as they work "electrostatically" by attracting and flocculating the wee specks floating in the brew. One of them is positively charged and the other one is negatively charged (can never remember which
) so it's good to give each one a clear run.

Re: Polyclar
I cant remember which way round it is, but yes, I add one additive, leave 2 days then add the other 2, perfect answer from yourself there bribie.
