Do you ever use Carbonate Reducing Solution aka CRS or AMS?

The reason for the question is that CRS calculations are the one thing missing from Brewsmith 2. I found only two posts on Brewsmith support forum about it and both posts were from Brits and had no useful replies.
Yo Americans! Do you ever use CRS/AMS????

I don't think that they have access to it.
They had to explain what it was in lectures at this years us home brewer conference.

I've never heard of CRS or AMS, so that probably confirms dog's theory. Whatever it is, wouldn't it come with instructions?dogchillibilly wrote:I don't think that they have access to it.

As the tin says it's "A blend of acids to reduce carbonate levels in brewing liquor without the need for boiling". So if it doesn't exist in the 'States then what is the alternative over there? Boiling?

I don't know because I never do. What's wrong with some carbonate in my brewing water? I go the other way and add Calcium carbonate to my softened city water in order to simulate your harder water. It enhances the color extraction from darker grains and simulates Old-World limestone well water in a really harmonious way. If our native sources were too hard, I guess we count on our water treatment plants to straighten it all out. What do people in rural areas, "off-the-grid" do? ...uhh, dunno, shutting up now...
But if Brewsmith doesn't do it, it sounds to me like many UK members use other free software water chemistry calculators, right?
