3 gallons of grain

Post by Underground Joe » Fri Nov 02, 2012 9:50 pm

My scales are broken and I need to know roughly how much grain I've got. I have just over 3 UK gallons of maris otter, any ideas what this will weigh?

You could convert it to kilo's, use a jug, it's roughly around 2ltrs grain to every kilo.

I get roughly 4 kg malt in a 10 litre bucket if shook just a little to get it settled.

Maybe a bit over enthusiastic that calculator.

I had 12kg brimming a 5 gal fermenter so i'd say 1 gal is about 2 kilo, about the same as Eric.

Is it crushed or un-crushed?

It's crushed. Anyway cheers for the help everyone, I remembered that I had some luggage scales and weighed the bucket and it was 8.3 kilos, the bucket weighed about 700 grams, so 7.6 kilos of grain. I love Friday night maths. Just think, there are some people that don't have anywhere near this much fun on the weekend.

Now you know how much you've got, what are you planning to do with it?!
