The Vorlauf

Done 3 brews now, and the vorlauf seems to take an age until the runnings become clear. I'm still getting grainy bits in after around 6/7 litres has been ran off. I think this is weakening my efficiency.

Do you batch sparge or fly sparge? Also do you have a manifold or false bottom in the mash tun?

I have found that I have to start running off nice and slow to set the grain bed as it takes an age to set if I try to go too quickly. Once the run off is clear then I increase the speed.

I had this trouble the other day. Didn't have it on the previous but my grain bill was larger so I'm guessing this is why?
Cheers and gone,

I fly sparge, and have a false bottom. My 1st brew was the less grainy of the 3, clear in around 3 litres. Maybe it was because I ran it off slower, but can't be so sure.
