Vitamin c

Post by wilfh » Fri May 24, 2013 7:27 pm

I was sitting in the Marine Hotel in Stonehaven couple of days ago and was drinking a Belgian Triple by Witkap- Pater. On the ingredient list it had vitamin C listed. Can anyone tell me what this is for? I thought that this was quite a challenging beer with a funny sort of sharp flowery taste with orange and lemon in the background. It was very strange.

Although I digress a bit from the original subject the Marine Hotel is well worth a look at if you are ever in the region. The beer list is huge running to 2 pages of A4 for Belgian beers in addition to the 5 cask beers, a Belgian on tap and Guinness that I was told was very very good.
Stonehaven is a nice small town and it was a real revelation to find such good beer there. A great surprise.

Cheers

Well... It's an acid so will contribute a bit to the flavour profile. It's also, IIRC(which I may not), an anti-oxidant so has some preservative properties

It is used for reducing oxidation of the beer.
