Re: aramis hops?
I haven't, but they're descended from French Strisselspalt hops, along with Alsace/Elsasser, Tardif de Bourgogne, Triskel, etc, which are some of my recent favourites. The ones I've tasted are similar to each other, but noticeably different from German, English, American, Australian, New Zealand varieties, which is pretty cool. I get fruity, black-pepper-spicy, honey, fresh cut grass, perfume, but faint, in a very pleasant, refined, noble way like Saaz, good enough for classic Pilseners even.
Don't waste them for bitterness, use a high-alpha variety with a relatively neutral flavour profile, and then add the Aramis for late aroma additions. When these are used in very high doses, you'll get a great green tea essence. See also: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=58730&hilit=+strisselspalt#p617028
Aramis has also been used by Stone Brewery (of Arrogant Bastard fame, etc). They describe it as "floral, earthy, woody, Earl Grey, lemon, hay, herbal." New Belgium (of Fat Tire Amber Ale fame, etc) describe it similarly as "earthy, grassy, potpourri floral, oranges, peppery."
In short: GO FOR IT and please let us know how it turns out!

Re: aramis hops?
Oh man, that sounds amazing. Well played.
Re: aramis hops?
Hmmmm....
I live in France and I can get 1kg of these hops for about 6 euro. I think you've convinced me..... Now I just need a bigger freezer.

Re: aramis hops?
Thanks for the input chaps, what I hope to make is something like what we bring home from France for my son; 1664 Blanc. It's sort of a cloudy pale ale with a hint of citrus/fruityness, similar to a wheat beer but a bit lighter.
i'll let you know the out come, cheers

This one? Re: aramis hops?
I don't think it's that one Seymour, probably
http://www.beercrank.ca/2011/10/review- ... blanc.html
I must confess that even though this is one of those mass produced "fake" beers - and quite synthetic tasting- I do quite like it from time to time - it is refreshing.
There is coriander in it, so you could add some ground up coriander as in a typical blanche.
It also has a citrus hit - but not the typical orange peel hit you get with this type of beer - it's certainly lemon. they say "lemon flavouring" not lemon peel on the bottle so it too is probably from some flavouring additive - you could try a small amount of orange/lemon peel at flameout
It also doesn't taste like it has been fermented with a typical weisse/blanche strain - it is very clean tasting, it's possibly a lager or even neutral ale strain.
Good luck with it

Re: aramis hops?
Ah, you're so right. I don't think we get that one over here, but I'd definitely give it a try. I like the look of those clear blue bottles too. A low-grav hazy wheat ale is relatively easy to make taste good, even when mass-produced. I had some perfectly fine ones from breweries I love to hate, y'know?killer wrote:I don't think it's that one Seymour...
Re: aramis hops?
That's the one in the blue bottle, also available in cans, which I don't normally buy, but they're handy to take to our local Indian restaurant where it's a bring your own drinks place, (not as heavy as bottles)!

Re: aramis hops?

Kronenbourg 1664 Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc
Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc is a super-premium beer specially brewed for real connoisseurs wishing to derive special pleasure and to taste something unusual.
This is refreshing white wheat beer with fruit tinges that was created by French masters encouraged by the best medieval traditions of brewing. This brand is produced using one of the best kinds of Alsace hop, Strisselspalt. That gives the drink its exquisite aroma. The faint fragrance of citrus fruits and coriander stress the exquisite inviting taste of the Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc.
Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc is distinguished both for its taste and inimitable style. The shape of the French cobalt-colour bottle of 0.46 liter (the old French measure) reminds of the Eiffel tower. The bottle is decorated with relief figures "1664", a unique label covering the neck and a convenient twist-off cap. The beer is served cooled at the temperature of 3°С so that one could feel the refreshing pure taste.
In Russia Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc has been produced since summer 2008 at the Baltika Breweries plant in Saint Petersburg. Today the brand is one of the most premium brands in the licensed segment and the most expensive brand in the company’s portfolio.
