cold enough for a lager?
cold enough for a lager?
Just wondered if anyone thought the current 12-14 degree temperatures would suitable for fermenting a lager without temperature control? Perhaps ferment in the garage then lager in a spare keg till jan/feb?
Re: cold enough for a lager?
+1, however I'm gonna give it a few more weeks as I'd rather ferment it on the colder side
Cheers and gone,

I think by the time I've convinced swmbo to let me brew again, it'll be well into november. lol.mozza wrote:+1, however I'm gonna give it a few more weeks as I'd rather ferment it on the colder side

Get her to stand in the garage next to the FV. Should get the temp down to 10 celsius.bigdave wrote:I think by the time I've convinced swmbo to let me brew again, it'll be well into november. lol.mozza wrote:+1, however I'm gonna give it a few more weeks as I'd rather ferment it on the colder side
Re: cold enough for a lager?
I wondered this too...
But it's milder here on the Island, so I got some WLP810 San Francisco yeast & got a 'steam' on...
I have read that it can be clean if fermented at 15c ANC lagered for a couple of weeks...
Will report back...
It will unit any malty lager style so I will try a Oktoberfest next....

Re: cold enough for a lager?
From experience a lager yeast fermented a little warm will produce better results than an a clean ale yeast fermented cool. Not sure if it's cold enough for lagering mind - not that it makes a huge difference....
