some sort of a stout, dry hops?

Post by lord groan » Sat Feb 22, 2014 2:09 pm

Recipe put together based on leftovers! After a leaking MT tap and a stuck mash I'm finally in the middle of the boil at the mo, but I'm wondering what hop to use for dry hopping?
Recipe:
pale 4000
crystal 200
roast barley 420
chocolate 150
oats 205

30g challenger at 90 min
15g challenger at 10min

then dry hopping
I have northdown, challenger, magnum, willamette, styrian, wgv, and boadicea to choose from. Was thinking Styrian, is there anyone out there with the experience to recommend one of these?

thanks

I don't dry hop my stouts so I am going to vote for holding onto the hops. Just my opinion.

I'd go challenger all the way.
I'm just here for the beer.

I wouldn't dry hop a stout. I don't even add much in the way of late hops. It doesn't mix well with the roastiness IMO.

I've never dry hopped a stout, but what's the worst that could happen? Styrians could add something uplifting, the recipe isn't a million miles from my stout, I might even be converted!

Have never dry hopped a stout but tasted one that was dry hopped with cascade. it was not good!

If i ever put in late additions then i would only use something like fuggles which goes ok.
