high FG and dry hops

Post by DanO » Tue Jun 17, 2014 6:36 pm

Hi folks bit of advice if possibe, I am 9 days into fermentation OG was 1056 now at 1018. There is still some yeast on top but not much going on. Would it be OK to dry hop at this point or should I wait until the yeast sinks.

Plus my FG always seems to be high minimum 1014 but generally higher, I mash at 66-67 generally but wondering if there could be any other reasons for this?

Thanks

All down to yeast strain and fermentation such as pitching rate and temp :)
Cheers and gone,

Depends on malt, yeast, fermentation temp, mash temp.

Are you sure your thermometer is accurate? My pt100 said 71 and my thermapen said 68. I'm still not really sure which was correct. I'll find out when I taste the beer I guess

Seems to be similar with most yeasts, I ferment at 19-20 degrees in a brew fridge. Although this yeast seems to be taking longer its mangrove Jack west coast.
Wondered if water chemistry has anything to do with it, or possibly need a new hydrometer. :)
