Can I barrel too Early ?

I'm in a bit of a rush and need to get a brew out of the FV into my King Keg ASAP (to make room in the fridge for another brew) .

As this is only a summer brew for a party at the end of the month, as long at the initial Krausen has started to disappear what harm would there be in me moving to the Barrel before the bubbles have really slowed down ? In a couple of weeks I will siphon the bright beer into a fresh barrel to be drank straight away anyway.

Thoughts ?

Thanks

Andy

The main risk is over pressurising the keg to failure levels, so just make sure the prv set up is working and expect more sediment than usual in the keg.. you shouldnt need to prime if fermentables are left in solution, but thats easy to check with a hydrometer and check against the expected final gravity reading. the difference in readings will indicate the level of sugars left in solution.

as long as the prv is ok (presure relief valve) any excess pressure building up due to more fermrntables in solution than ideal should just vent before you blow a leak. if your concerned and it starts to baloon more than usual you can untwist the lid to evacuate some pressure..

it wont be ready to drink any quicker, and if kegged too early could drop so much sediment that it hampers a clean pour.

you could ferment the next batch in the pressure barrel till the current batch in the fv has been bottled??
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Yeah thanks, falls in line with my thinking. Once in barrel I can leave it to pressurise and clear while my next batch starts.

Too many parties and too little time, still the quality must be ok ? I hope.

Thanks for the help

I've just moved house and have been kegging early at the 7 day point, just to build up some stocks and get back into steady state brewing. Had no dramas at all, other than drinking it too early as well.

hmmm

Should I have asked if it's possible to drink too early ? With the excitement of a fresh brew I am guilty of taking the daily 1/4 pint to see how its going.

Surely only by starting to drink your beer early do you appreciate the day when your beer has reached it's peak...... ?

(if it lasts that long)
