Wherry yeast issue

Post by techtone » Mon Nov 03, 2014 11:29 pm

I know some people have had ferment problems with these (I never have) and I have just noticed a potential problem. In the past the yeast has always been supplied (for me) in smaller square packets. I ordered a couple recently and the yeast was in much larger oblong packets. Whereas the square packet fitted neatly inside the recess of one of the two tins, the newer packets are too big. The rim of the tins have therefore pressed into the yeast packets. I can clearly see this has pressed a tiny hole into the yeast packet which presumably isn't good for keeping it fresh. I don't know if it is unique to these two but worth checking maybe?

Can this be moved to kit?

If I were you I would buy a pack of S-04 (only a couple of quid) and use that instead of risking a brew with potentially contaminated yeast.

Good call but I already have plenty of stock of "spare" yeast as I often reuse and get at least 3 or 4 batches from a single yeast. I keep them in the fridge and find they last a very long time.
