batch priming

Post by iano » Sun Nov 30, 2014 7:35 pm

hi , just been thinking of time saving during bottling . I was thinking of dropping sugar solution into my fermenter fitted with a little bottler. Previously I had transferred into another fermenter. I can't think of any reasons not to ,can anyone else ?

You would need to stir it in which will probably also stir up the yeast sediment.

Yes not a good idea. I don't bottle my beer and so just add priming sugar to the keg when racking.
Best wishes

If you're careful and have used a highly flocculent yeast like Notts, I think you'd easily get away with it. Look at the dregs in a bottle of Notts-brewed ale and it remains clear forever, only being disturbed by some pretty vigorous agitation.

Have done it. It worked but there was more yeast in the bottles at the end.

If you really want to avoid racking to a bottling bucket then use a pipette to quickly squirt an even amount of sugar solution into each bottle.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

I rack mine off into another fermenter and add the sugar in there before fermenting.
