What can I brew tomorrow

Post by Wez » Sat Aug 25, 2007 9:53 am

What should I brew, any ideas, help appreciated.

The good lady has just signed off another brewday for me for tomorrow but I have been caught short on the hops, I have:

Oregon Fuggles 100g 4.9%
Challenger 55g 6.5%
Styrian Goldings 41g 3%
Northdown 74g 6.5%

I have loads of Pale and Crystal malt also have flaked Barley, Carafoam, Roasted Barley, Black & Chocolate malt.

I thought about doing a brew I've done before 'Grumpy Bum'

4130.00 gm Pale Malt (2 Row) UK (5.9 EBC) Grain 91.0 %
410.00 gm Caramel/Crystal Malt - 10L (19.7 EBC) Grain 9.0 %
80.00 gm Fuggles [4.90%] (90 min) Hops 40.2 IBU
25.00 gm Styrian Goldings [2.00%] (15 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops

But I did this recently and wanted to try something a bit different, what do you think?

Oh, 23 or 25 L batch at 75% eff.

Cheers in advance! Wez. :D

Why not try making one of your own up? What I did was to use some of Marc Ollossons recipes as a guideline (IBU's:OG ratio for the various styles), then took some advice from SteveD, Steve_Flack and Vossy and just went for it. The Result? Lucky7 is my best beer to date.

Tip From Steve F if you're going for a pale ale then use the Gervin as the Safale can overpower the delicate flavour.

What about chucking some dark crystal about 300g and about 130 g of chocolate malt in with about 5Kg of pale malt.

Get about 30 IBUs from either the challenger or northdown as the bittering hop (I'd probably go for the northdown).

Bung about 20g of styrians in at 15 mins and the rest of them on flame out

ferment with the gervin.

Edit call it wez's wicked ale (its similar to petes wicked ale)

Wez you could join the all challenger party

Why don't you flick through Norms almanac, it may fire off some inspiration
Its one of the great resources of this forum :=P

I'm going to have a go at Delboy's suggestion (but i'm using a bit more crystal)

5000.00 gm Pale Malt (2 Row) UK (5.9 EBC) Grain 90.3 %
410.00 gm Caramel/Crystal Malt - 10L (19.7 EBC) Grain 7.4 %
130.00 gm Chocolate Malt (886.5 EBC) Grain 2.3 %
49.00 gm Northdown [6.50%] (90 min) Hops 30.1 IBU
20.00 gm Styrian Goldings [3.00%] (15 min) Hops 2.6 IBU
20.00 gm Styrian Goldings [3.00%] (0 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -

at 75 eff that should give an OG of 1049 and then an EBU of 32.

In line with todays beer naming in Delboys honour this one will be called:

Hookey Street
