Is my starter Infected?

Post by perryni » Thu Jan 22, 2015 4:20 pm

I have just done a 2 step starter with some out of date Yeast Bay Wallonian yeast.

Its been on a stir plate which I stopped 2 hours ago and I am letting the yeast sit at room temperature before I put it into the fridge tonight for brewing tomorrow.

I have just noticed this on the top, I have smelt the starter and it smells yeasty which is ok, could this be infection or just clumped yeast?

Cheers Nick

Looks like clumped yeast to me. I'd imagine being a funky yeast it might behave a bit differently.

Thanks Matt, I had a feeling it might be but wanted some reassurance. Yes seems a fairly weird yeast but hopefully will produce a nice saison
