I've gathered together some leftovers from my last 4 or 5 brews and trying to brew my next few batches without buying anything more than a sack of pale malt and some yeast. Got enough hops for the next 300 odd pints but my question is what would be a reasonable replacement for crystal malt?
The crystal I need only amounts to 4% of the total grain bill. I have Amber, Caragold, Special B and Oat malt as possible substitutions (or a combination of these!)
Thanks.

Re: Crystal Sub
Caragold is a very light crystal malt. You'll get some maltiness, sweetness and mouthfeel from it.
If you want a darker colour you could combine with a tiny amount of special B to darken things up.
What are you looking to get from your crystal?
If you are making an American IPA or Pale ale I'd say just stick with 100% pale malt, or possibly try some oat malt for body and smoothness.

Replace with amber and mash a little higher should produce similar results.
