wedding brew

as im only a free man for another 4 weeks I thought I'd make a brew for the night before whilst I ponder my fate.. its mashing now and the recipie is;

marris otter 3.5 kg
aromatic 50 gm
roast barley 40 gm
treacle 150 gm
fuggles 60 gm
Goldings 45 gm

gervins real ale yeast

4 gallon brew coming out at 6.5% :shock:
what do you think ?

I'd dilute to a more quaffable strength, but thats just me being a wuss :oops:

You should call it 'trouble and strife'.

as you say it may turn out to be something like old peculiar but Im just making it up as i go along really . i think old peculiar uses dark malt as its base though .

i sampled this last night just to see if tis ready for friday night, its horrible :cry: well its drinkable but not particulary nice anyway . I increased the wort volume to lower the strength to about 4.5% when i made it but i think if youre going to use aromatic malt then it needs to have a bit of bite to it , maybe it will improve over the week I spose. the treacle taste is quite strong and coupled with the aromatic malt it makes it taste like a weak belgian beer really. I should have stuck to london pride :lol: ah well all in the spirit of adventure ! 5 days to go till the big day :shock:

cheers Daab, actually now im on my second pint its not that bad, a few days and it should be okay . if i made it again i'd up the strength to about 5.5% and barrel it a bit earlier so it had a touch of sweetness. it would be quite nice then :D
