Im brewing a all grain double citra IPA but after 3 weeks the yeast wasn't falling out and was suspended throughout my FV and floating in large clumps on surface. pic - http://imgur.com/Qi9Cudn
Im very close to my FG and fermenting stopped around a week ago. Im unable to cold crash as I live in a flat and don't have a large fridge, so to try and clear this up I added gelatine. I followed some online instruction making sure not to get to hot etc and I added this to my primary. After 48 hours all that's happened is I have a very large jelly crust with my floating yeast stuck in it. pic - http://imgur.com/Sn8Shpm
Is this now a write off? I was planning on moving to a bottling bucket try and swamp cool it and then bottle.
floating yeast and gelatin goo
Re: floating yeast and gelatin goo
I would stick with it. If you can’t cool it, then siphon to another vessel, trying to leave behind as much of the floaters as possible.
Give it a taste. if its ok, keep it.

I'd just try siphoning to a bottling bucket. Jam your siphon through the jelly mess, and if what's underneath tastes ok and you can rack it off you're good.
Two things come to mind though:
If you've made jelly then you have massively overdosed with gelatin. Quarter to half a teaspoon of powder is all you need for 5 gallons.
I'd only advise using gelatin as a final polish on a beer that is already dropping bright and to do so in conjunction with chilling, it's never going to clear blobs floating around like that.

Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

Thanks for the replies. I didnt use much gelatin at all, i may not of stirred it in thoroughly though. I followed the advise and was able to salvage this batch. Lost about a gallon as there was still alot of suspended particles below this jelly.
