Beersmith and estimated gravity values

Post by darkisland » Sat Jun 25, 2016 4:18 pm

One thing I've never quite figured out with Beersmith is why the "Est original gravity" and "Est pre-boil gravity" are always different, are they not the same thing? i.e. the gravity of the wort that comes out of the mash tun prior to boiling.

I must be missing something...

Original gravity is measurement of the wort going into the fermenter. It will be higher due to evaporation of the wort during the boil.
