Occasionally used water filters.?

Post by aamcle » Wed May 18, 2022 3:26 pm

In the kitchen I have a tap fed from a 10" taste and odure water filter but carrying the water out to the garage is harder every year. The filter removes chlorine and any off flavours.

I can fit a food grade hose to an outside tap and include another filter But I only brew at most once a month so the filter would just be sitting there festering for weeks at a time.

How do I protect the filter and keep it safe to use?

I use a whole house filter cartridge and housing. I open it and drain the filter and housing and don’t put it back together until I’m sure it’s dry

Sommeliers recommend that you swirl a glass of wine and inhale its bouquet before throwing it in the face of your enemy.

TBH I’m more afraid of gunk growing in the hose. I would hang the best I could to drain.
Recently I’ve been brewing indoors so don’t need the hose but still use the filter.

I wish I could brew inside but I have a plan this year!

I'll build up stocks through summer and autumn and stay warm inside during the coldest months, bottling is no fun in Jan.

Garden hose can give a rubber or plastic taste. RV hose is flavorless and not much more expensive.

I do have gunk growing in one of mine....
I know this cos it bungs up the water inghead.

For beer, I bought some bottled water in 17 litre (small drink despenser) bottles. Fantastic. Popped a rope handle on them, so I fill those and carry outside. 36l is also a perfect ammount.

I guess as Mad Hippy says, you are boiling it. I would run the hose for a bit to be sure it’s clear. Couldn’t be any worse than what’s already growing in the plumbing and faucet.
