Bock in a Braumeister
Bock in a Braumeister
Have made my first ever Bock lager in my BM20.
I have no idea how my schedule will work but I took advantage of the cold spell in Jan here in the UK with the following:
21 Jan starter WLP860 (Augustiner yeast evidently)
22 Jan brew
10c for 8 days
4 day diacetyl rest @ 17/18c
6 week lager @3-5c in secondary FV with air lock then closing cap in garage (at this stage now)
Bottle mid March
Drink later in the summer?
Will bottle rather than keg so I can use the kegs I have for more beer
Any thoughts for this novice welcome.

Re: Bock in a Braumeister
You are probably wanting more time for a starter as you will need a stepped one for lots of treat fermenting at that temperature. It be a smaller batch/beer first and then use some of the treat cake for the bock.
Re: Bock in a Braumeister
Is that in code? Didn't know bock had its own secret language?
Re: Bock in a Braumeister
treat = yeast, I suspect.
Re: Bock in a Braumeister
Thanks for the auto correct explanation that makes sense now. I thought the yeast might need a bit longer hence the airlock on the secondary for the first week or so. It came down to the FG of 1015 in the recipe I followed so let’s see how it finishes up. I’ll let you know if it’s good bad or indifferent

Sorry was on the phone with kids in both ears too.
Re: Bock in a Braumeister
Here is my Bock since I used WLP 860 yeast which is allegedly from Augustiner I thought the stein was appropriate for the photo . It actually drinks pretty well for my first ever attempt at a lager cheers for good Easter brews!

Hi
There appears to be a sizable deposit of yeast in the bottle. It is possible to brew and not have any that deposit.

Re: Bock in a Braumeister
Hi IPA,
I wondered when someone would notice that! Hopefully I will improve with my next efforts as I picked up on the tips from the forum using protofloc gelatine and Brewbrite - I bought the latter from the malt miller and will be using it in my next brew.
Cheers

I should of course have recognised that the tip came from your post in the first place so belated thanks for the advice.

Re: Bock in a Braumeister
You will be astounded by the results if you follow all of my advice including the transfers.
With regard to the BrewBrite always mix it with cold water before adding it to the boil. Despite what the instructions say!
