pitching yeast

just made a brew. my mate as gave me some pedigree yeast from a starter bottle but after 12 hrs it as not started working will it be ok to pitch a pkt of saf 04 into it, i am a bit wary it might make it a bit yeasty. ss

Approximately how much yeast did you pitch, it might just be taking it time to get going? This is especially true if the wort is a tad on the cool side. I find that on brew day its always worth waking the starter by poring of the old starter wort and adding some fresh wort taken halfway through the boil (Aka a Daabs Flying Starter), I would then hold off on pitching until the starter was working properly.
