Dark Ale Days ~ 1st - 4th May 2009

A cracking Dark Beer Festival with good food and music, plus plenty of great ale from the dark side!
The White Horse, Edwardstone, near Sudbury/Hadleigh, Suffolk

The beer list for the week isn't yet complete but so far highlights will include:

Regular Guest Ales
Adnams Bitter – Adnams 3.7% A refreshing beer of real flavour, distinctively hoppy and deliciously dry.
Brewers Gold – Crouch Vale 4% Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival 2005 AND 2006, this is a pale, refreshing and hoppy beer with gorgeous aromas of tropical fruits.

Festival Ales
Black Pig Mild - Bazen Brewery 3.6% Great Mild, Smoky, lots of roasted bitterness. Tastes stronger .
Mulberry Mild - Conwy Brewery3.8% Very complex mild. Coffee bitterness fruity finish.
Over the Moon - Dark Star 3.8% Quite a bitter mild. Last years best seller. Only to be sold to Fivetide.
Sussex Extra Stout - Dark Star 4.5% Chocolaty stout. Very Drinkable.
Black Dog - Elgoods 3.6% Classic mild, always sells out quick
Roman Black Ale - George Wrights 4.8% A new brewery and a new beer for us. From St Helens in NW England
Golcar Mild 3.4% Traditional Northern Mild. Roasted flavour
Welsh Black - Great Orme 4% Fruty Mild. Full bodied
Great Cock Up Porter - Hesket Brewery,Newmarket 3% One of the best sellers last year. Great beer for its strength
Hobsons Mild 3.2% Smoky and smooth. Former ‘Champion Beer Of Britain’
Black Coral Stout - Hornbeam Brewery 4.5% We liked the name!!
Midnight Bell - Leeds 4.8% Sweet fruity, deep red, strong mild
May Pole Mild - Oak Leaf Brewery 3.8% Great brewery, Seasonal mild
Dark Island - Orkney 4.6% Inconsistent but always brilliant!
Dark Ruby Mild - Sarah Hughes 6% Based on an Victorian recipe. Brewery named after the brewery's owner in the 1800s
Pressed Rat and Warthog - Tripple FFF 3.8% Mild thats a hit with bitter drinkers
Brockville Dark - Tryst 3.8% Mild From Fife
Scorpio Porter - Wem Brewing Company 4.5% Brewery formally called Hanby.
Station Porter - Wickwar 6.1% Old Style porter. Has won more awards than we could count.

Mill Green beers:
Bull's Cross Bitter
3.5% abv (Traditional Suffolk session bitter. Very well hopped)
Bull Cross Wood is the nearest large wood to the brewery and was once part of a huge tract of medieval woodland running ten miles up the Stour Valley.
Loveley's Fair
4% abv (Pale & Aromatically Hopped, Brewed with Organic Malt)
Loveleys Green the historic location of the brewery.
Mad Old John
4.2% abv (Smooth, Dark Old Ale)
Named after nobody in particular!!
Good Ship Arbella
5.4% abv (American Style Blonde Ale)
Made with American hops and named after the ship used by John Winthrop when he sailed to found the first colony in America. (Runner up in strong ale category of Colchester CAMRA Winter Ales Festival)
Mawkin Mild
2.9% abv (Black and full of flavour)
Mawkin is the old Suffolk name for a Scarecrow.
O'Bama Irish Stout
3.8% abv (Dry, smoky, Irish style stout)

I forgot to mention that there is a camping field and shower facilities etc...

Should be good fun :=P
