If you do so Si your bottles should be excluded, Only the permitted information is allowed
Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
D'oh. OK then how about left trouser leg rolled up and a copy of brewers contact tucked under right arm. All those in favour!?!
Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009

By default I'll get chatty after about an hour there, can't think what loosens the tongue? Apologies in advance to those I've met before and have no recollection of

Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
I think we chatted last year. Also recall talking to Gurgeh (shortly after his TV fame). Apparently me and Mixbrewery swapped beers on the way back to the station. Hopefully staying over in Sutton this year and making a day of it.SiHoltye wrote:![]()

Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
I thought it was judged by NGWB Judges, so maybe: http://www.ngwbj.org.uk/beer_styles.html or even the ones on Richard's site http://www.cheerswinemakingandbrewing.c ... tyles.html. Either way, wasn't there a "Specialist" category that everything else got lumped into (Si - your Chimaybe got placed there didn't it?) - personally, I'm just writing the style (a la BJCP) on the entry form and let them decide which of their own categories it should go into!SiHoltye wrote:If it's like last year it's judged to the BJCP style guidelines here, and you have to submit a minimum of 6 pint bottles, or 3 gallons if kegged.
Think I met siholtye and Marmite last year too, but I'm pretty sure I'd have no idea who you were again

Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
Should have said that you can always include a bottle label with whatever you want on it Held on with an elastic band . . . that way they can use the three bottles for judging being plain, and the others for the 'public' can advertise your beer.SiHoltye wrote:Might be nice to put faces to names on the day. If not we each where a stupid hats to spot fellow forumees how about adding JBK to your bottle labels so we can if we want find people to say hi?

They use 3 bottles for judging
Last year there was easily 70 odd beers entered. Not bad for a mornings work!

There is always the JBK logo that was designed in 2008 for the last Derby event.
Print onto t-shirt transfer paper and iron onto a cheapy primark t-shirt.
If you haven't downloaded the logo try this link.

Check out the beers we have for sale @ Mix Brewery

If anything from last year is to go by; drunk brewers from JBK will always find each other in a crowded room!

Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
Anyone know a good place to stay in Sutton that's fairly near the venue? I'm thinking of going, but I really, really don't want to have to drive home....
Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
Theres a Holiday Inn that looks about 1/4 mile from the venue. Rooms are about £65 ish.adm wrote:Anyone know a good place to stay in Sutton that's fairly near the venue? I'm thinking of going, but I really, really don't want to have to drive home....
Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
I wonder with no Derby comp this year if the Sutton event will be alot bigger than last year? Hope the new venue is ALOT larger as it was fairly cramped last year!
Re: Sutton CBA comp 2009
A few weeks ago I saw that this (2009 Craft Brewers Association National Homebrew Festival) was taking place in November and thought that having recently started home brewing and making what I think is a tasty extract American Pale Ale (thanks to reading posts on this really helpful forum) it would be fun to enter the beer. I emailed for details of how to enter a beer and received no reply. I telephoned two weeks later to ask for details and was told that they were far too busy to talk to me. No apology for not replying. No "please phone back at another time." I appreciate people can be busy but I thought that being an organiser of the festival the person I spoke to might be keen for someone to enter a beer. I couldn’t have felt less welcome to enter a beer, especially as a newish brewer. I'm really disappointed with this as it puts a downer on something which is supposed to be a fun, relaxed hobby.
Don't get me wrong, there are loads of people in the homebrew industry who are helpful and informative. I might have been unlucky but I have to say that since starting brewing 6 months ago I've met a few less than helpful, surly staff in homebrew shops who aren’t giving a good impression of this really great thing to do. It’d be a real shame if anyone was put off. We're making beer here! Crafting something special from fairly basic ingredients. I’m talking about the minority but they really need to relax, read Charlie Papazian, remember the fun they used to have from this hobby before they became bitterer than my pale ale after a week in the bottle (!) and have a home brew.
If anyone knows or runs a home brew competition which is chilled, fun and run by people who have time to be polite then please let me know...

I'm not aware of any other home brew comps. running in the UK other than this one. Let me know if you are still thinking of entering as I've got soft copies of the entry forms/rules that Richard sent me.
