Can't find Scooby's comment in this threadkay-jay wrote:i'm with scooby, i definately favour the informal approach. just bring as much beer as you want to drink thru the event and swap bottles with everyone else. any large campsite would do. lake district is good! KJ

1) It will save us having to get passports and visas to proceed further north than Watford Gap.
2) It will save on the cost of hard hats for protection from the woad painted natives.
3) As Garwatts says, it will save on the cost of Foul Weather Gear as it always rains up there.

Jim, what facilities have you got in your garden?
How many electric hook ups?

Happy days, glad the ball is rolling on this one. Was beginning to worry there lads. I said the Midlands because, well, it's in the middle. Happy to go on up north though. I like the sound of the Lake District. How would we go about it then?
Aleman, when you've done it in the past, did you all just book onto a campsite and start sampling? That sounds like my kinda holiday.
Perhaps Mr Wheeler could come along and be a judge?

Well we used to stay at one of the members houses near Rugby which had a large field to the side of it. . . . And yes, turn up pitch tent start sampling . . . We have had as few as 15 beers on and as many as 40 . . . I'm still not sure if it is an honor or not to take home 3 empty corniifloydmeddler wrote:Aleman, when you've done it in the past, did you all just book onto a campsite and start sampling? We did do a bit of organising producing an annual glass, and T Shirts . . . . Chipped in for meat for the BBQ . . . chipped in for food. . . . . Nowadays we have brewery sponsorship and get to play on big boys toys on the saturday.

I reckon this sounds realistic for a first crack at it. Turn up, open our car boots and do swaps etc. for the weekend. Be a nice opportunity for people to sell / swap equipment too and generally yap about brewing with like minded people.boingy wrote:I guess it depends how far you want to take it. A good start might be a bunch of folks on a camp site sharing beer. No need for tokens, competitions or any real organisation. Just set a date and a venue (and if the weather is good) then "they will come".
Should have created a poll on this thread to get an idea of definite numbers.
Re: JBK Craftbrew Festival 2010
Id be up for it too; I'm sure we'd have a few smokers/BBQs on hand too!

Re: JBK Craftbrew Festival 2010
glad were making progress! might i suggest coniston in the lake district for the venue? there is a massive camp site on farmland on the banks of coniston water. its really beautiful up there in the summer. and should the weather be hot enough to cause a shortage of ale due to quick consumption there is a few good pubs within walking distance.
also, how about someone sorting out a few JBK t-shirts ahead of the event?? profits to go to Jims leukaemia fund.....
