Cooldad, smp465 and myself will be quaffing a few ales and talking a great deal of beer bo**ocks at the Cambridge winter beer festival on Friday the 23rd Jan. Anyone else fancy it??
Totem, plenty of notice this time. Maltloaf, don't whimp out with excuses, get yourself down here.

Certainly Sir!
Actually made it on Friday and had a few. Even though I was talking the same language as you I never spotted ya

I looked round for a JBK t-shirt but didn't see one. I don't have one, and I didn't strap Soreen's best to my head so I doubt you'd have spotted me either. I think I should have done actually, not nearly enough loonies in evidence!
Did you find anything interesting? Anything inspiring? I thought
Hopshackle Special No.1 lived up to it's name and Bartrams
Suffolk 'n' Strong was a close second.
One unexpected bonus of the thick beers was a better beer coat, I'm sure I get colder going home after the summer festival!
Cheers,
ML.

Maltloaf, you should have made yourself known, you couldn't miss me, I wear a dayglo yellow jacket because I cycle to Cambridge. Perhaps a hat or t shirt with 'I brew my own beer' on it next time
To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with the evening. Had to queue to get in, pay £2.50 entrance fee and £4 for a glass with the average cost of a pint at around £3.20. Only had a couple of decent beers, the rest that I tried were crap and on top of all that, it closed at 10.30!! What sort of beer festival is that!
Anyway, rant over.
Might try the summer festival. Start early whilst it's free entrance and take my own glass, that should soften the blow a bit.

I had to queue too, but I guess I'm used to that, the summer one can be terrible if you catch it wrong. They didn't advertise that the £4 for the glass was refundable, but it was. Don't tell me you took your's home?

I've got enough beer glasses so I've no need to keep a momento (especially a four sodding quid one).
Average cost doesn't really work with the range of beers on there though, did you not try the
Harwich Charter Ale? That was £2.60 for a half!
10.30 is pretty normal too, how are all the volunteers going to get their free beer in if the punters don't leave early?
See you at the
summer one,
ML.

No, I sold my glass back but i normally keep them for my small collection of festival glasses but as you said, NOT AT £4!
Most of the beers i sampled were below 5%. I have a fairly long cycle ride home so stuck to the lower gravity beers.

Went with jubby ,smp465 and his dad to my first beer fest and although we had a good laugh and some good beer I came away from it a bit disapointed and felt riped off .Better off going to the Kingston arms and holding our own mini beer fest would have been cheaper and the beer selection there is really good .
