Glasgow Beer Week: CALL FOR HOMEBREWERS

Post by Invalid Stout » Sat Apr 23, 2011 12:48 pm

I apologise for the short notice of this.

Glasgow Beer Week is approaching and I'm delighted to now be able to say that the climax of the week will once again be a pop-up pub. We have a very good venue and have found a solution that allows us to legally serve homebrewers' beer.

WEST brewery have kindly agreed to host a homebrewers' evening. Glasgow Beer Week will pay the beer duty on your behalf and as far as the taxman is concerned it will be WEST's beer.

If you want to take part in the evening and have your beer served at Pop Up Pub, you will need to come to WEST on Friday the 6th of May and bring your brewing equipment. It will be a hectic night, but hopefully a lot of fun.

I know people will have loads of questions about the practicalities of how this is going to work. I will post more details when I know, but for now, save the date!

Robbie. Do you think WEST will be able to heat us up some strike water to help speed things up?

That would be a good idea I think.

Uhmm and if we could also use their plate chiller? And also nab some malt and hops ? Actually can they just brew the whole thing for us?

As WEST is a German-style brewery, do they actually have a hot liquor tank as such? I thought they just heated it up in the "Maischpfanne". If they're using or cleaning that it might be tricky.

Anyone got some brown malt kicking about? I just looked on maltmiller and it's out of stock

It could be a long night if we have to heat up our own. No brown malt here unfortunately.

Owen whats your chiller like these days? I might have to borrow yours on the day, I didn't bring mine.

Chiller is ok if the water is cold thats feeding it otherwise it can be a bit slow. I might have to borrow your hop filter if my plate does not arrive and this one fails.

My HLT is currently a fermenter so... It may be im nicking somebody elses. :D.

Sorry no brown malt robbie.

I found a bag of brown malt in my stash, so that's at least that crisis averted.

Crises? Plenty!

I need a photographer to come on Wednesday and take pics of the beer mats being printed too.
