2012 National - what type of event do you want?
2012 National - what type of event do you want?
In full on planning mode for this now, but a chance to ask a wide group of people, what type of event do you want?
a) just a competition
b) a competition with a social afterwards
c) a competition that takes place at the same time as some seminars and with a social event afterwards
Its worth bearing in mind, that some of these models could be practically challenging, and that they all bear different space requirements and therefore cost. They also have different levels of input in terms of finding volunteers to do things.
And, beyond this, do you want to volunteer to help?

Option 2 probably (voted) but option 3 isn't bad just forget the seminars.

I buy from The Malt Miller
There's Howard Hughes in blue suede shoes, smiling at the majorettes smoking Winston cigarettes. .

Some ideas of topics:
Beer Judging - Becoming a beer judge and the Judging process.
Beer History
Common brewing errors
Anything to do with yeast
I think an expert talking on any subject will always pass on some nuggets of information.

There's an all day event on the judging processsimple one wrote:Some ideas of topics:

As to becoming a judge, I rather feel that the information on how to do that is out there or could be produced as a poster or flyer at the event rather than a seminar.

I'd be really up for a fault finding session.

Aside from the judging?pdtnc wrote:I'd be really up for a fault finding session.

Judges will share things with stewards so they can learn. Fancy stewarding?

Re: 2012 National - what type of event do you want?
Ideas for the seminars above sound good. Be good if it's not on at the same time as judging!
Perhaps a range of technical, practical, historical (Ron or Martyn?) ? Would be useful if it covered topics that were accessible to less advanced brewers, as well as topics that the advanced brewer can take something home from as well.
It would be excellent to have a session devoted to the results of judging (common problems in this year's event) but I fear time would put pay to that.
