AG#27 - Spectroscope (Sorachi brown)

Post by sunny_jimbob » Sun Jun 08, 2014 1:20 pm

Lazy Sunday at home, hate the sun, ideal opportunity to stay indoors and brew! I've had some Sorachi Ace burning a hole in my hop stock for a while, but wanted to do something unusual with them. I was in Norway earlier in the week, and was drinking Brooklyn Brown Ale, so I thought I'd have a punt at a rough clone (purely in terms of a robust-ish brown) using just Sorachi.

The beer is named for the spectroscope, which featured heavily in the last OU module I did, and according to Wikipedia is "is an instrument used to measure properties of light over a specific portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, typically used in spectroscopic analysis to identify materials."

Photos will follow in due course.

Why am I not surprised that the first reply is from you, and says this, Mr Chair? ;)

Just downed the hops to 8/8/9 grams, because I'd not edited the AA%. And holy cow, they smell fantastic!

That's because you know me so well :)
I also know you would put me a bottle aside for the Morley Homebrew bottle swap :)

I've never smelt the hops in the boil, I'm hoping Pete will sells 100g when I come to the next meeting.
