First brew 2015 80/-

First brew of 2015,a repeat of 80/- 'Fower Pun'

3465g Golden promise
454g amber malt
250g crystal malt
220g wheat malt
100g chocolate malt
55g East Kent Goldings 60 min
8g East Kent Goldings 15 min
WLP 028 Edinburgh yeast

Mash water treated after alkalinity test of 33.5 to 'Edinburgh profile' on GW's water calculator, addition were 5.95g gypsum,3.39 calcium chloride,1.61g epsom salt,0.71g salt, 0.08g precipitated chalk.

Grain temp was 19C,strike water 77C,mash in 68C. Mashed for 90 mins mash out was 67C

Sparge water 85C. Just started here. Collected 2.5l first runnings to boil down, just visible behind HLT,on hob.

15 min addition and Irish moss waiting their call of duty. The wallpaper was just starting to peel in the corner of the kitchen by this point.

Yeast starter ready for action. Taking care to ensure the yeast and wort were at the same temperature this brew. Both were 23C.

Into fermenting fridge. Just the cleaning and tidy up to do now.

Only thing I forgot to do was put the hop strainer on the back of the boiler tap. Usually do it the night before when measuring out the sparge water. Luckily remembered,but only after I'd put all the collected wort in the boiler. Back it went into the collection vessel for a few seconds....
Not bad after a 3 month break,in all.
