IN THE SHED 21st OCTOBER (WIG-SMIFF)

Post by GARYSMIFF » Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:55 pm

As the cowboy said as he went into the German car show room

"Audi"

Today I shall be as usual making it up as I go along and this gives me.

3.5Kg Lager Malt
500gms Flaked rice
300gms Torry Wheat
250gms Crushed Flaked Maize
50 gms Black Malt
400gms golden syrup
250gms Sugar
10gms Pacific Gem 14.6% @ 60mins
40gms Saaz 3.3% @ 15mins
10gms Pacific Gem 14.6% @ FO

Mashing at 66º

W34/70 Yeast.

UPDATE This beer is just fantastic,
Smells like bread dough when rising with a hint of orange peel almost like a hot cross bun mix without the spice, just fresh fruit and yeast :)
Mouth feel is " you know its a beer you should respect" long past a session beer, but not a glooopy thick beer, you could (so you think) have 3 Pints and call it a Doris (Day).
Taste: Hops Hit your mouth roof with a spike of bittering zing then the sweetness of the beer washes over your tounge enhancing the bready (if that is a word)flavor of the yeast and malt.
only let down at the moment is its clarity, but hope that will come with time.

Very nice to see the brewing tradition of swigging old product 'to free up bottles you know'? What does the flaked rice impart to the brew?

pdtnc:
went for the W34/70 Yeast.

pantsmachine:
I have added Flaked rice to a lot of my brews as it has a very faint Basmati tang to it, nothing overpowering its very much in the background, but it give it that "je ne sais qui" you know like that "whats that other taste i'm getting", very nice with a dry beer, also I hope it adds a few points to the % defo if i mash at 40º then bring it up after 10 mins or so.

8/10 this beer smells and tastes good, honest it's another good beer from the SMIFF, might have to get the FATHERS view on this, see what he says! #-o
