Had a long brew day yesterday but managed to knock out a very light coloured hoppy ale. I've tried using lager yeast in this one to make it a steam beer.

Lager Malt - 6006 grams
Pale Malt - 4283 grams
Torrefied Wheat - 650 grams
Munich Malt - 350 grams

Mashing was done in two batches with a total of 72L of water used at 67C and 74C. Nothing out of the ordinary to report on the mash.

Hops changed a bit as I had to repair a leaking tap so I missed the 60 minute addition of Saaz and bumped it to 30 minutes instead. The Bobek hops may not be adding anything as they were very old and still sat in the freezer.

Columbus (Tomahawk) 16.5 % - 90 mins - 70 grams
Saaz - 3.3 % - 30 mins - 53 grams
Bobek - 4 % - 30 mins - 27 grams
Saaz - 3.3 % - 15 mins - 34 grams
Bobek - 4 % - 15 mins - 29 grams
Saaz - 3.3 % - 0 mins - 14 grams

I didn't bother with a protofloc this time as I was cooling via a plate chiller. Due to a dodgy hose pipe I couldn't run it at full pressure so the flow rate was dropped meaning the cooling took me the best part of an hour.

Yeast for today was Mauribrew Lager Yeast 497  which I've not used before. Hope it works out.

As predicted I got 50L at 1.051 and am hoping for a drop to 1.012 meaning I'll get 5%ABV. I was really impressed with how pale the wort was, I think I'll do a lager malt only brew soon.

update: fermenting away. Seems to be a lot of top action going on for a bottom acting yeast...

What was the run off clarity like, I'm assuming using these malts not too cloudy or did you recirculate first?

Was pretty clear. Usually after recirc it is very clear but leaving this to drop out in the ferment. Will post a photo soon as I can. Camera went flat on the brew day so I missed out.
