That might explain the problem I had. I used Asda's version of Valencian Orange Extract which I see has 20% orange oil and the rest is rapeseed.

Yeah it’s an odd claim and certainly not a true one, haha. I wonder if oils bulked with ethanol are classed as just in suspension or something, pure orange oil would be pretty full on!

That looks very similar to what I used. Oil of orange being the main ingredient. Be interesting to see what effect it has on the head of your beer. Unless of course you don't like a head on your beer in which case you should be fine.ImageImage

Interesting! Touch wood the beer engines in the pub should handle that...

Kf: i use 5g/L dry hop and that’s alright for a full flavoured but not over the top beer, but that’s mainly because it’s a 5kg pack in 1000L. Luckily it’s probably about what I’d use anyway!
Have been wanting to do a marmalade/orange brew for a while - looking at your Sunshine Marmalade Rob as well as the Mandarin Dream Charlie. Intrigued by the reference to the Nielson Massey 'PURE' Orange extract, had a look on their website and it states its made up of 90% alcohol, oil of orange and water. You have to ask how that equates to 'pure' orange.

See Sainsbury's also do a Valencian extract with what must be a similar (9%) amount of actual oil. Problem there though is the remainig 91% is stated as rapeseed oil.

Looks interesting but can't see anyone in the UK selling it. Looks expensive (for a limited number of brews) - would it work out better going for the bitter peel and 'orangery' hop combo?

£19.52 for 750ml on the page I looked at. Seems expensive, but I doubt if you would need much for 5 gallons of beer. Think it works out cheaper than the extract I used. There are other cheaper options on Amazon.

Have you used them at all and if so how did you find them compared to "real" fruit?

I work with flavours, you will need to choose orange extract which is suspended in alcohol and dose it at 0.1 - 0.5% I estimate in your finished beer. You can play to get the correct dosing by adding it just before bottling, there is no benefit to ading it before. Too heigh a dose and you will see an oily slick on the surface.

Following Moshers Radical Brews you may have best success making your own tinctures, steeping orange peel in alcohol. It works best with high proof thought 50 or 60% ABV.

This extract is supposed to be good as I believe it contains no added oil https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp/wcs ... tract-60ml
