Post by robbarwell » Sat Apr 25, 2020 12:56 am

Hi all.

Been brewing on and off for a bit but due to Corona have some unplanned time so....

Stones Best Bitter

Those that know me well will understand that this beer got under my skin as a youth in the 80s in Sheffield. Ive tried to recreate it a few times and come close...this is my latest attempt...We will call it Version 1

Recipe

For 70 litres

12.5kg of Maris Otter
500 gms of light crystal
500 gms of Torrified Wheat

Mash hot at 68degrees to get some unfermentable sugars through for a sweetness to finished beer and a solid mouthfeel. Mash for 60 mins

Sparge at 76degrees

Hops

Challenger 20gms at boil
Challenger 70gms for last 10 mins
Goldings 100 gms for last 10 mins
Then at end of boil leave to stand for 35 mins with 100 gms of Goldings for a good steep

Yeast
Yep....Sheffield Strain...from Brewlab

Its sat now in fermenter at 20 degrees and is chugging away like a good un
