Surely if protofloc and brewbrite are added to the boil as usual , the cold break should still occur once the temperature drops enough ? . I just use protofloc during boil. I overnight chill and get perfectly clear bottled beer that I can invert over the glass.
I am not saying cold break doesn't exist or isn't beneficial, but there are other ways.

I have a swimming pool (OK it's an intex 10ft above ground jobbie that I got for £100 3 years ago) plus an attached hot tub (OK it's a converted IBC with some hose fittings from B&Q and a massively blagged 25 quid pump from ebay that happens to be a 3/4 hp industrial spec pump).
I have previously run a hose from the IBC outlet via a 12v pump to my counterflow cooler (again home made) or my immersion chiller - which I tend to prefer over the counterflow. Hose back into hot tub/pool = warm pool.
But it all takes ages.
Tomorrow I am going to do a mad brew and make 3 batches, one will be a 45L batch of my Aussie lager in a sanke kegmenter which I will drop in hot, seal up and drop straight into the pool to cool. Other two will be an IPA and finally my Putin Huylo recipe and into 25L jerrycan after a quick whirlpool and settling similarly into pool to cool.
I see the cooling time in the pool as basically the hopstand time, so recipes shouldn't need too much adjustment.
Assuming it works you should all get yourselves a pool - even if you use a load of water to keep the pool topped up it will be warm and you can swim in it!

Malt Miler one is 20 ltr. I have a couple of 25 ltr, different types from eBay. One holds about 28ltr to the brim. Include "food" in your search to get food safe/food grade results. Since they get carried about by a handle when full, they're all pretty tough as far as I can see and neither of mine have shown signs of splitting when filled & rolled.

The malt miller ones are nice and sturdy with a solid handle and no nooks and crannies where crud could lurk , very impressed at the price . Will get the first use on Saturday brewing Twisted barrel Mild .

Right so I brewed yesterday and the wort went into the cube about 2pm and was left on a concrete shed floor overnight . just checked the temp and its down to 24 so it has gone in my brew fridge to knock the last few degrees out .
One bit of advice I would give anyone using one of these for the first time is to be very careful moving it once full , mine was put on a step ladder to get it at the right height to fill from the GF recirculate pipe . I put the cap on and went to lift it off and they do go very soft and flexy with boiling wort so an oven gloved hand was needed for support underneath , certainly would not want to trust the entire weight on the handle . This may or not be the case with any cube .

I just leave mine in the kettle overnight after boil. Next day, temp adjust as required then rack off & pitch.
Cubes/Jerry cans IMO are only needed for longer term storage.

Absolutely not, drinking some stunning results at the mo.
I have enjoyed proving a few things to myself.
I rack into a couple of SS buckets and the return. I will be trialling a chilled reduction method soon too (prior to pitch)
The heating mod for the BM has been installed but not been tested yet though... Its been too warm
