Irish coffee porter

I completely forgot to make a "brewday" thread for this but I made this a few weeks ago:

Light Dry Extract 70 %
Crystal Malt - 60L 15 %
Chocolate Malt 15 %
Bittering hops up to 32 IBU

Original Gravity: 1.045
Final Gravity: 1.012

I added a slug of irish whiskey, about 20 ml to a litre of beer before bottling.

I sampled last night after being in the bottle for 3 weeks and I have to say, impartially I think it's very good to excellent. The coffee notes are great, the amount of residual sweetness is perfect, there is a woody character too it, im not sure where from, maybe im tasting the whiskey, and the finish is moderately dry and very roasty. There is no "gap" in flavour or body like some porters I've had.

The recipe is so simple too.

Bottle in 350ml bottles and serve in a tulip glass, 10-15C

After a few gulps:

Nice recipe, evil. One to remember for the autumn me thinks. You should put a warning in the subject line. That picture is not the sort of thing a man at work should see. It's torture!

That's very interesting, kind of like a beer version of fortified wine. I wonder what would happen if you got some of those oak strips they use in wine making and soaked them in the wiskey for a while then put them in the beer, could make things very interesting and funky. I think however if I were going to do that, I would probably make the beer higher gravity so I could age it for awhile which should allow the flavors to meld together better. I wonder if anyone out there has any experience with these types of beer, I sure don't.
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)
