Hop Efficiency When Boiling

Just something I have been thinking about. I remember it being touched on briefly in another thread but cant seem to track it down again.

Its not really a problem but my extract brews are not particulary underhopped but sometimes I think because of the small portions I boil, due to lack of equipment, I'm not getting all the flavour from the hops that I could do and this has led me to using larger amounts for small gains.

Currently I am adding a kilo of spraymalt to about 7 litres of water and boiling the hops in there. My question is will I get better effiency from the hops if I increase of decrase the amount of spraymalt in the pan with the hops ?

One thing I read recently about adding the extract in two goes that made sense was to only add the corresponding proportion of the extract at the start to the volume you're boiling.

For example if you're brewing a 5 gallon recipe but can only boil 2 gallons, only add 2/5 of the extract at the beginning of the boil and 3/5 nearer the end. This should mean you have the same gravity at the start of the boil as the full 5gallon recipe. Obviously you would be using the same amount of hops in a much smaller vessel and that might have an effect but it should be closer to the desired recipe than adding all the extract at the start.

Sorry if this seems obvious....
