Timothy Taylor Landlord extract recipe

Post by Tim74 » Mon Apr 20, 2009 5:08 pm

Hi everyone,
I've not done a brew for months now and am just about ready to start again. I'm keen to do a Landlord clone but I can't find a recipe anywhere, so I have a few (possibly very stupid) questions.

I've found the following recipe for an all grain brew:

4.460 kg Golden Promise malt
Styrian goldings 42g
Fuggles 35g
Goldings 15g

Now, if my understanding is correct, to convert an all grain recipe to extract, I have to multipy the all grain malt content by 0.73, which gives me roughly 3.255kg. As long as I buy this crushed, can I soak it at the required temperature as I would normally with an extract brew and not use any tinned malt extract or spray malt? Or do I need to add tinned extract or spray malt? I hope my question makes sense; if not, I blame it on the second bottle of La Trappe Trippel I'm currently sipping...:-)

I'm confused as to what you're trying to do. What are you trying to "soak"? Or do you mean mash the grain?
Best wishes

Hello Badger, I meant steep the grains, but for the life of me I couldn't think of that term when I was typing my post. Basically, if I steep the required weight of grains at the required temperature, do I then need to add spray malt or liquid malt? If so, will doing so affect the taste so much that it doesn't resemble Landlord? I suppose what I'm asking is, what does adding a tin if extract and/or spraymalt do to the brew, and what would I end up with if I chose not to use it? I do have this annoying habit of wanting to know the ins and outs of a duck's arse...

Based on the recipe you gave, you won't have any grains if you do an extract brew - you'll just use malt extract (either liquid or spraymalt). If you're intending to use the 4+ kilos of Golden Promise malt then you're doing an all grain brew rather than an extract brew.
Best wishes

My TTL recipe (23 litres)

4250g pale malt
30g black malt

30g goldings (start of boil)
30 styrian goldings (start of boil)
20g syrian goldings (last 10 mins)
3g irish moss (last 10 mins)

90 minute mash schedule

You can replace the pale malt as above with 3kg of LME or 2.7kg of DME
