Hello Everybody
I'm looking to buy my first ale kit tomorrow and have a couple of questions.
As the subject title states, I will be buying a Coopers Dark Ale and I am wondering if the A.B.V. could be made up to about 6.5 - 7.5 % without any loss of flavour by adding spray malt or something similar.
Seeing as though I am new to this I have not yet bought a fermenting bin, would it be ok to use one of the 5 gallon wine fermenting vessels with a tap on the bottom, the ones made by sheraton.
Thanks
Neil

Re: Coopers Dark Ale
You can just add extra sugar, brewing sugar or spraymalt to your kit to get the extra strength. I've only used brewing sugar with my Coopers kits but have read that spraymalt gives it a better taste. Maybe add half of each then give it a go.
If I remember right, it says on the side of the kits how much sugar to add to get it up to a certain abv and think that just adding 1kg will bring it to 4.5% and when I used Beer Engine it said the following when using household sugar.
1.3kg = 5.4% ABV
1.5kg = 6% ABV
1.9kg = 7% ABV
2.1kg = 7.6% ABV
I drank a Coopers Dark Ale that a friend had brewed a while back and it wasn't too bad

Thankyou for the quick reply, much appreciated. I think looking at your post I will go for the half and half addition of spraymalt and sugar.
Once again, thanks mate.
Cheers

Just use spraymalt, your beer will be ready a lot faster and taste better when finished.
