Re: Braggot recipe help!
If it's a medieval ale then you probably shouldn't be using hops, especially modern varieties like Challenger. I'll leave aside the fact that malt would have been wood-dried which would have introduced a pronounced smoky flavour to the ale.
Best wishes

hi. thanks for replying. good point about the hops, i've seen on most websites that have info on braggot that it may or may not contain hops...and being a hoppy person i thought why not. and also your right about the challenger hop thing but i was just thinking about the flavour it would give to beer. oh and a big thanks about the smoked malt point i have to try and get a very suttle smoke in there without detroying the rest of the flavours
Re: Braggot recipe help!
If you want it more authentic go for the older bittering agents such as heather tips or bog myrtle, that's what they'll mostly have used pre-hops
Re: Braggot recipe help!
hi. well i know it sounds lazy (well ok its not only sounding lazy, i just am being lazy) but do you know where i chould get thoese from online. thanks
Re: Braggot recipe help!
oh and i forgot to ask......if anyone has a authentic braggot recipe, chould they post it for me please. thanks
Re: Braggot recipe help!
I saw a site recently that was selling bog myrtle and heather, not sure now where to be honest, it'd take a bit of googling, but I do remember it didn't take me long when I was looking. The other option is to get to moorlands and pick some bog myrtle yourself, it's out about now.
Re: Braggot recipe help!
i would....but...im a bit of a dumb ass so i would probably pick the wrong thing and end up picking something deadly up
