Pros and cons for both I guess.

Dry extract is a pain in the arse for storing in bulk because it draws moisture like crazy.
It is easier to weigh out the right amount af dry extract for adding a little more/less in a beer.

I think as far as quality goes, age is crucial, and particularly for LME, I think. I buy all my beer ingredients online as the bulk nature of the business means hops, grains, yeasts and extracts are generally much further from their sell by dates in my experience. I have been using DME very successfully, but I know lots of people use LME successfully too. You just need to find a supplier of recently packaged, good quality stuff. A lot of extract recipes combine LME and DME, the DME is used to get to the required OG, on a base of mainly LME. But I'm sure plenty of people use only DME, and soak some grains for flavour and freshness. For me, doing a mini mash with some pale malt and the specialty grains makes a huge difference, whatever extract you use.

Cheers for the replies!

I might pick up some of these for an extract IPA that I'm planning -

Everything that I've bought from the MM has been top quality, so this LME shouldn't be any different.

Do you have room to make two brews at the mo? I often think about some of the light lme's and then carry on and buy dme.

I'm going to keep plugging it because I think value and quality are excellent.... 25kg bottle of Cedarex light made by Muntons. £60GBP so that's £2.40 per kg! Kept for several months once opened so I had no problems with wasteage and as far as I could tell there was no dropping off of the quality after I had opened it. You can buy it from several of the bigger online homebrew shops and the one I use sells it for £60 and if you spend £65 it's free delivery so I order some hops at the same time and jobs a good un..
