how severely would clarity be knocked if one was to chuck 500g of spray malt straight into the fermenter?

I wouldn't know how much the clarity would be effected. I don't think it would make much difference.

Personally I would add the spraymalt to some water and give a 10-15 minute boil first. This will ensure that it dissolves and is sanitary. You know how much that stuff clumps at the faintest sign of moisture! Wouldn't want those big clumps ruining a batch!
