My oktoberfest lager has frozen in my (yet to be converted to a decently temperature controlled) fridge.
Not completely but an inch or so on top.
I've turned off the fridge to let it thaw - it's got 3 more weeks to lager according to the recipe.
Any advice at this stage? Should I add more yeast?
Cheers!

I've had a similar experience, as its only lagering its not that much of a problem . . . in fact I've found that getting the beer to the 'slushy stage, is a really good aid in clearing the beer . . . and ensuring long term stability . . . It is now my standard method for producing lagers.

You could freeze it completely, remove the frozen stuff and keep the alcohol to run your car. Just a thought.

I guess rather than an Oktoberfest I will have more of a Molsen Ice.
It's a really old fridge, I'm surprised it managed to get down to freezing point though.

Haven't you noticed that the street lights in your road are much dimmer recently

I always thought there was a danger of larger freezing when laargering at -2?

Nah, its only Skol and other weak woosy beers that freeze at -2C . . . Now -14C most beers will freeze

Me too - hence why I wasn't worried when the thermometer sitting on top of the bucket was showing around freezing.
But the top couple of inches most definitely froze, and the rest was slushy (still is).

it'll be crystal clear after that, as the venerable one says.
will you be racking it off after it's fully defrosted and lagered?

After it's lagered I was planning to bottle it... Not sure if I should add more yeast at that stage or not. I was planning on not.

it is crystal clear and it's carbonated to a decent degree, probably a bit under. really smooth though, quite dark with a definite lager feel but malty. this is my best effort for far and i intend to drink about 10 bottles tonight to celebrate. ye ha...

Did you use a larger yeast or ale yeast?
