Priming Bottles with Suger Cubes

Post by vipergreen » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:47 am

Having used Coopers Carbonation Drops I wondered if anyone had used Sugar cubes for priming bottles.

I know that they wont be boiled to sterilize but nor are the Drops and i read something about the sharp jaggy edges coursing foaming.

Any ideas

I find it much easier to draw off some beer into a measuring jug add the priming to that and boil it in a the Microwave then add that to a secondary FV (after cooling) then rack off from the primary to the secondary which causes the priming to be mixed in evenly then bottle from there.

I used to use coopers carbonation drops, now I use table sugar using a measure cup from wilco's, cost about 2 quid and is accurate enough for me..

I've never tried using sugar lumps, but using a syringe is a good idea.

I try to use dried malt to prime the bottles. I glad I read this because now I shall make up a mix of malt and water, boil it and add it to the bottle using a syringe.

I use a teaspoon and my hand around the bottle as a funnel!
