Hi everyone, great forum with loads of advice, very impressed with the wealth of knowledge; no wonder we have the best beer in the world!
Can anyone help? Ive maybe caused myself a bit of a problem; Ive not brewed in years and am prepping for an extract brew this week. Ive soaked and cleaned all my stuff, filled my FV with clean London tap water and plopped a campden tab in to get rid of the chlorine overnight.
I then went to the pub with a mate for a few hours, got back, remembered I had forgetten to crush the tablet so went to the garage to check it had dissolved. There was a little bit of tab left so, not thinking, plunged my arm into the water to break it up. Straight away I had a shock/horror moment cos Im worried that Ive contaminated the liquor with my sweaty arm.
It was sterile before, with a lid on, and had a campden tab, so will it be ok or have i risked serious contamination of the brew liquor?
If i need to start again then its only put me back a day, so no real worries, but im interested to know if I majorly ballsed up at such an early stage.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Owen
NEWBIE AND STUPID...
Thanks DaaB, mega useful to know that I dont have to wait for de-chlor - i need to powder the tabs first right?
On your advice I will ditch the water, give the FV a slosh out with a bit of VWP solution and pop another (crushed!) tab in tomorrow so I can get my brew underway straight away.
Oh, if im crushing campden tabs I guess sterilising the pestle and mortar is overkill?
Cheers.
