I Have Made Beer'y'Floss
I Have Made Beer'y'Floss
Ok, my first ever extract brew - and first brew since kits back in 1994 - has been in the barrel a week. Its a London Ale similar (getting more like it by the day) to Fullers London Pride.
Ive had a wee taster every other day but the thing is yesterday when i turned the tap it was a bit lively to say the least. I got a massive rush of gassy head, like candy floss and it took 3 mins to pour half a pint, letting it settle alongthe way.
Tonight i put a large jug under the tap to see if it would come out frothy first then settle down, but i got 5 pints of clouds.
Im usig a beersphere with the float. Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong pls?
Thanks all
Owen

Nope... primed with about 150gms spraymalt AND 50gms sugar....maxashton wrote:You're not doing anything wrong, you've got too much pressure in the keg. If it's a KKTT, squeeze the rubbery thing at the top until a load of gas escapes.
Did you prime it AND give it a squirt from your bottle?

Cheers max, its a beersphere with the same rubber band setup, so ive let a lot of pressure out but its still quite airy. Also tried to pour a few pints in the name of research so heres a fewpics. Taken with a blackberry phone cos missus SWMBW ran the batteries down on the digi and never told me (again!) so apologies for grainyness.
The Beer in the Jug

The Pint

Mmmm nice colour

Clearer Than It Looks

Am I making Myself Clear?

Will it stop fizzing when i get the right pressure? Also does it take time for the gas to come out of suspension or is it straight away? LOL its sooo obvious I havent got a bloody clue!
My mate was saying that a publican earns a free pint every 12 because of the head on the beer. My local tries to serve bitter with a Guinness head so maybe I should sell them this stuff?

It will take time for the CO2 to come out of suspension. Do you have a lot of headspace in the keg?
Possibly a better idea for the moment would be to let as much CO2 out of the keg as you can via the release valve.
200gms of fermentables is a lot to prime a batch with. I think last time i primed with sugar i used about 70 gms, that was for my Mild.

Wow did the server get a bit wobbly?
Tks again Max for your reply. Ive let a lot of the gas out and its settled down and im getting beer instead of froth, but with a head which is good, so cheers for the advice. But will the beer make more CO2 to keep its condition ? If not then it wont keep and then I would have to have to drink 35 pints over the weekend all by myself cos theres no time to recruit help...
