Nope. I've actually found myself having a good read in here. See; When I started HB, in a past life, I never once touched a kit. LHBS steered me straight and put me onto Extract from the very start.
To be honest, what I did back then is really completely lost to memory. All I know is I used to buy half gallon plastic bottles of malt extract and, I imagine, some hops. Vaguely remember hops. Damned if I can remember what I did with them though.
And now I'm mouching around in here and thinking maybe I should get back to it. I did it then, I can do it now. And this'll give me so much more scope for variance too. Just so long as I can source the ingredients here - which I should be able to as others clearly are

Sorry I ve done a 'doublequote' in 2 posts rather than one.Ditch wrote:Nearly wet myself laughing there!

Ditch Im guessing the reason you cant remember your virginal foray into HB is the same reason i cant; you were in your late teens or early twenties and thought it was a grand idea to ignore the instructions and double the sugar content and so were permanently foooked.
It wasnt so much brewing, more like making thinners. I dont know why I ever bothered buying a crown capper cos a bottle was never sealed for more than a week before it was opened again and swilled. A batch was fermented in a week and gone in less.

Thats a relief, I was starting to think Ditch was the Grim Reaper, who however, after consuming ~8,000 litres of guiness in the recent months, had now taken to dispatchng small furry things due to his delusional state, I was worried he was going to sober up and come and get meLol too! Ditch you're a mad fekker

No, these days - having detoxed and lived on tea for a dozen plus years - I'm seemingly able to drink more like normal people; I.e. Stop before pissing the bed becomes an " accepted " result!

Now I'm genuinely seeking the pleasure of tasting a nice 'Refreshment', without wrecking my entire system as a result. If I could brew a Dark, full of Mouth Feel, Hoppy / Malty (I'm still not sure which one best describes what I like) brew which doesn't leave my entire CNS completely overcharged with the need for another? I'll be a happy man.
F*ck 'Cuntons', by the way. I'll look to imported ME from anywhere else but ' Cuntonistan'.
Thanks to the other guys giving me encouragement to The Dark Side. But, I found that a bit labour intensive, first time round. Now? I'm finding all the new ideas - Post Lines - a tad prohibitive. I can see the benefits, regards quality / product control. But, I'd sooner re grasp the basics and teach myself by my own, idiotic, mistakes and cock ups there - as I am! See elsewhere!
My god, do I need new glasses! Must've taken me an hour to squint at this. Maybe I just need a more 'Quaffable' beer?

Go on, go to AG, you will be amazed how easy it is to make a guinness clone with the added benefit that you can drink a few in between mashing, boiling etc. You also feel like you've accomplished something and you have a load of spent malt and hops for your compost and it's cheap as chips!Ditch wrote:ADDLED wrote:

Yeah. Ye just about hit it on the head there, mate! I was a bugger for the 'bottle'

Oh heck - can feel myself going over to the dark (or at least darker side too '' !!). Busy working my way through lots of John Bull Best Bitter, it's alright but the other night I caught myself thinking could do with a 'proper beer'! ':-k'
Is it just me or do homebrew's automatically feel different to a mass produced commercial beer? I'm happy enough with what I'm producing knowing what's going into etc, but to be able to create a brew without the tin (thereby gaining some control over the outcome at least in flavour) does appeal.
I can't remember who but someone said the difference is like comparing freshly ground with instant coffee, to a coffee drinker that said it all, added to that I could try a HobGoblin Clone.
Ditch, make room mate one more convert!!
