Want to move to extract brewing, but..
Hi all.
After reading through this forum, I am wanting to take a step up from kits to try extract brews so can get the beer to my taste rather than rely on the kit stuff.
However, the biggest pot for boiling is about 11 litres, so the question is, what is the maximum amount of wort will i be able to make?
I have seen one or two recipies (on other web sites) where to boil 6 lts then make up with cold water to 21 ltr, but the general cencus on these pages is to boil the full 21 lts.
Hope someone can clear up my confusion so i can get going. thx in advance.

11 litres is plenty to get a final volume of 23 litres. I've done many successful brews that way.
Best wishes

thanks again Osb, so will i have to adjust the volume of ingredients accordingly to get to the 23lts instead of the 10lts? Or brew as in your recipe and top fv up to 23 ltrs?

It sounds as though you could benefit from this calculator, you can change it to metric units at the bottom of the page
Its all pretty self explanatory and it allows you to play around with a variety of ingredients and volumes. Works a treat
Cheers

You need to scale up the ingredients as well otherwise you'll get very weak beer.Spikesdad wrote:thanks again Osb, so will i have to adjust the volume of ingredients accordingly to get to the 23lts instead of the 10lts? Or brew as in your recipe and top fv up to 23 ltrs?

floyd, That looks great,
but if you knew me, you wouldnt put water + 'lecky together in same sentance, never mind a home built boiler

Do you know someone who you could trust to do it? Everybody knows an electrician!

Have you thought about using two pots? Alternatively, you could post a very nice thread asking someone local to you to build you a 35L boiler? Obviously cash or beer would have to come into play!

Re: Want to move to extract brewing, but..
I used a 11ltr pot to do 23ltr brew lengths... Here's an example of my process, although I refined it slightly before moving on to AG.
