using a kit for extract?
using a kit for extract?
ive got everything i need for my first extract brew except the malt extract
(cant get to the shop till next week) but i have a tom caxton bitter kit,can i use this inplace of the extract? or will that not work and i should just wait till next week..

Re: using a kit for extract?
hi,
should be ok in principle but if you do do this, bear in mind that the kit extract will already be hopped!

Yes , I agree. You could steep some grains for malt flavour or colour, substitute DME for sugar and add late aroma hops at the end of the boil and turn Mr Caxton's finest into your own concoction. It will certainly be an improvement on the kit.

thanks for the replies,i'll give that a go then with some crystal,brown sugar and goldings..

Re: using a kit for extract?
you could do as brotherton says but not bothering to boil the kit as this as already been done for you at the factory all the other additions will certanly change its basic tastemat69 wrote:thanks for the replies,i'll give that a go then with some crystal,brown sugar and goldings..
